NATURE OF THE SCHOOL

All About Us

Crestwood, named by its first principal, Warren W. Watt, opened in 1963 with extensions and the addition of our Learning Information Centre following within a few years. Crestwood sits on 22 acres of open land with a backdrop of dense woods of spruce and pine that are characteristic of the Kawartha district.

Our teachers are dedicated to fostering the growth and development of young people. They make very personal connections with their students and support them in their roles of teacher, workplace monitor, counsellor, research assistant, activity advisor, coach, music and drama director.

Crestwood?s strong academic tradition is complemented by a vibrant arts program, a wide diversity of courses offered by both the Business studies and Technical Studies Departments and an extensive extra-curricular athletic program. We offer a number of innovative multi-credit programs - Personal Leadership Development, Children's Literature Co-op Program and Media Co-op (produces cable network show). Special student learning needs are met by our peer tutoring program and individualized teacher support in the Personal Learning Centre.

The Mustangs, the name our sports teams proudly bear, have been winners since the beginning. We have placed consistently in COSSA and OFSSA finals where our irrepressible skill and enthusiasm have made our teams well respected throughout southern Ontario. Mustangs have always been true to the "Strive for Excellence" motto and, more often than not they have achieved it.

The School Community

The community surrounding Crestwood is evenly split between rural and urban with approximately 61% of students travelling by bus to Crestwood.

Students that attend Crestwood reside in the west end of Peterborough as well as Cavan, Millbrook, North and South Monaghan Townships, Mount Pleasant, Bailieboro and Fraserville.
